PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition free from any environmental problem, excellent in safety and storage stability, capable of affording coating films of high staining resistance, water resistance and acid resistance, and useful as e.g. a coating material for outdoor use by incorporating a specific emulsion with a specific salt of copolymer. SOLUTION: This coating composition is obtained by incorporating an emulsion comprising (A) an alkoxysilyl group-bearing coating copolymer such as a copolymer having, as a constituent unit, radical-polymerizable surfactant-based unit of formula I (Z is a radical-polymerizable double bond-bearing organic group; AO is an oxyalkylene; (n) is >=2; Y is an ion-dissociable group), (B) a hydrolyzable silane compound of formula II [R is a 1-30C (substituted)alkyl or the like; R' is a 1-6C alkoxy, halogen, amino or the like; (n) is 1 or 2] and (C) an aqueous medium, with (D) a salt of copolymer prepared by copolymerization between an alkoxysilyl group-contg. radical-polymerizable monomer, carboxy-contg. radical-polymerizable monomer and polyalkylene glycol mono(meth)acrylate.
