PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a dark colored plated metallic material excellent in color tone stability even in a severe environment where salt damage is caused and to provide a method for producing it. SOLUTION: This dark colored plated metallic material comprises an Al-Mn alloy plating layer on the surface of a base material and a colored film of a thickness of >=0.01μm thereon composed of metallic oxide and/or metallic hydroxide and contg., based on the total content of metals, >=30 atomic % Mn and >=0.1 atomic % Zn. This metallic material can easily be produced by applying Al-Mn alloy plating on the base material and dipping the surface of the plating layer into an alkali soln. contg. Zn2+ ions of >=5 ppm by weight ratio and/or applying the alkali soln. thereto.
