PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new metal fulvene inserted complex having no defect such as excessive sensitivity to air, etc., useful as a catalyst by reacting a metal fulvene complex with a hetero atom-containing unsaturated compound. SOLUTION: This metal fulvene compound is shown by formula I (M is a metal of the group IIIb, IVb, etc., of the periodic table; A is an anion ligand except a cyclopentadienyl ligand; X is H, a 1-10C alkyl or the like; L is a neutral ligand; R1 to R6 are each H, a halogen or the like; m and p are each 0-4;.k is 1-3 with the proviso that k+m+p is 1-5; n is 0-10) is reacted with an unsaturated compound of the formula: R8aR9bCY (R8 and R9 are each H, hydroxy or the like; Y is N, O or the like; (a) and (b) are each O or 1) (preferably an aldehyde, etc., and a compound of formula II in which Y is O). The reaction is preferably carried out in tetrahydrofuran at -10 to 60 deg.C. Preferably the compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a transition metal compound of the formula: AmXsLnM ((s) is 2-6 and s>p) with a fulvene compound of formula III in the presence of a reducing agent.
