PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate having an excellent color hue by the fusion condensation polymerization using a carbonate diester as a raw material. SOLUTION: A method is provided, for producing an aromatic polycarbonate, which comprises the steps of (I) synthesizing an aliphatic carbonate diester from an aliphatic monohydroxy compound, carbon monoxide, and oxygen, (II) synthesizing an aromatic carbonate diester from the aliphatic carbonate diester and an aromatic monohydroxy compound, (III) producing a polycarbonate using the aromatic carbonate diester by the fusion condensation polymerization, and (IV) recovering the aromatic monohydroxy compound which is a by-product in step III to reuse it step II, wherein the aromatic monohydroxy compound for the reuse contains anisole at 1-1000 ppm and trimethylamine at 1-100 ppm.
