1,053,356. Water in oil emulsion. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Aug. 5, 1965 [Aug. 7, 1964], No. 33662/65. Heading B1V. [Also in Division C5] A water in oil emulsion suitable for use as a hydraulic fluid comprises 20-45% by weight of the emulsion of water, 80-55% oil together with (A) a heterocyclic compound of general formula where R is a C 30 to C 500 alkenyl group, Z is oxygen, an >NH group or an>NX group where X is a nitrogen-and/or oxygen-containing hydrocarbyl group, and (B) a polyoxyalkylated part ester of a polyol and a monocarboxylic acid, the combined weight of (A) and (B) being 1-10% by weight of the weight of the oil, and the weight ratio of (A) to (B) being 1:1 to 8:1. The aqueous phase may contain 1-25% by weight of the weight of the water of an alkylene glycol. In compound (A), R- may be polymeric, for example polyisobutene. (A) may be an alkenyl succinic anhydride or imide, or an N-substituted alkenyl succinimide. Compound (B) may be derived from a C 2 - 6 OH 2 - 5 polyol and a C 12 -C 30 fatty acid. Antioxidants, anti-wear agents, pour point depressants, oil-soluble dyes and antifoaming agents may be present as 0.1-2% by weight of the weight of the emulsion; types of additive mentioned are alkyl phenols, phenolic amines, metal thiophosphates; polyhalo hydrocarbyl thiocarbonate esters, organic sulphides, metal dithiocarbamates; polymethacrylates; silicone fluids. |
