Optically active 1,1-bis(alkylmethylphosphino)methanes represented by the following chemical formula (1): wherein "R" is a substituent selected from a group consisting of isopropyl group, cyclohexyl group, t-butyl group, and phenyl group are extremely small but exhibit extremely high stereoselectivity and catalytic activity.
