A tetracycline antibiotic contained in dried fermentation mash solids is stabilized with aluminium ions. Chlortetracycline containing mash solids are prepared by conventional fermentation methods using Streptomyces aureofaciens, aluminium chloride or sulphate is added and the pH is first adjusted, if necessary, to from 2 to 4 and then sodium hydroxide solution is added to adjust the pH to from 7.0 to 7.2. The neutralized mixture is heated to from 90-100 DEG C. for about 5 minutes, cooled, a filter aid is added, and the resultant mixture is filtered off and dried. Other antibiotics used are oxytetracycline and tetracycline. The product is incorporated in animal feeds (see Division A2). |
