PREPARATION METHOD OF EXPANDED GRAPHITE

PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing expanded graphite is provided which uses not a mixture acid but single acid as an oxidant and reduces the amount of acid to be used and hardly discharge the acid wastes and reduces the content of sulfur remaining in the expanded graphite. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of: (i) dry-contacting graphite with SO3 gas generated from fuming sulphuric acid or sulfur trioxide to oxidize the graphite; (ii) irradiating microwave to the oxidized graphite; and (iii) heat-treating the microwave irradiated oxidized graphite to expand the graphite.
