PURPOSE: A hunting prevention method for a vehicle on an uphill road is provided to enhance drivability by preventing the vehicle from frequently shifting up or down caused by drive force shortage. CONSTITUTION: To keep constant velocity on an uphill road, a system reads engine torque, an engine rpm, a turbine rpm, the velocity of an output shaft, the opening degree of a throttle and a present gear lever and obtains a present weight gradient resistance by calculating force and acceleration applied to a vehicle. Then, the system checks if a vehicle travels in a maximum velocity. If not, the system compares the present weight gradient resistance with a minimum weight gradient resistance. When the present weight gradient resistance is more than the minimum weight gradient resistance, the system calculates constant velocity torque, reads the point of a down-shift and calculates the engine torque of the down-shift point. When the constant velocity torque is less than the engine torque of the downshift point, the system prohibits an up-shift.
