PURPOSE: A method for managing a software block version in an ATM switching system is provided to manage software block versions through a database by inserting necessary information in an execution module generation stage so as to exactly and efficiently manage information for each of the execution module of a software block and by making version information transported when an execution module is started. CONSTITUTION: If an MMC signal is received, a version management process in an LIOF(Loader In OMP Function) checks the status of a corresponding processor and a database(402). If the processor and the database are not in normal condition, the version management process outputs an error message(403). But, if the processor and the database are in normal condition, the version management process checks whether a software block was appointed(404). If a software block was appointed, the version management process inquires for version information for the appointed software block(407) and displays corresponding version information(408). If any block has been appointed yet, the version management process checks a version table of all the software blocks of the processor(405) and displays the version information of all the software blocks(406).
