PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for automatically tuning and blocking a broadcasting channel is provided to prevent channel information setup from being removed regardless of a user's own intention by notifying the user that the information previously setup is removed in case that the user adjusts an automatic channel tuning. CONSTITUTION: A broadcasting signal selected through a tuner is received. A broadcasting information decoder unit separates and detects broadcasting information, and decodes the information. Non-broadcasting hours are calculated from the broadcasting information and stored in a broadcasting information storage unit. In case that a user select a key for automatically tuning a broadcasting channel, a control unit compares the present time with the non-broadcasting hours. In case that time which the user selects is a broadcasting time slot, a broadcasting channel tuning is normally performed. In case that the time which the user selects isn't a broadcasting time slot, a tuning blocking function is automatically performed.
