The present invention provides novel oligosaccharide structures having the structures: (a) Fuc beta 1}6GalNAc, (b) GalNAc beta 1}3GalNAc, (c) GalNAc beta 1}3[G1cNAc beta 1}6] GalNAc and (d) G1cNAc beta 1}3GalNAc alpha 1}6GalNAc, (e) Fuc alpha 1m(7)4GalNAc, (f) GalfNAc alpha 1}6GalNAc, (g) Fuc beta 1}4GalNAc and (h)Fuc alpha 1}6GalNAc, and derivatives thereof, wherein Fuc represents fucose (pyranose form), GalNAc represents N-acetyl-D-galactosamine (pyranose form), GalfNAc represents N-acetyl-D-galactosamine (furanose form) and G1cNAc represents N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (pyranose form). These oligosaccharide structures can serve as the haptens of antigens. More specifically, the present invention further provides antigens having the following structures: Fuc beta 1}6GalNAc alpha 1}X}R; GalNAc beta 1}3GalNAc alpha 1}X}R; GalNAc beta 1}3[GlcNAc beta 1}6]GalNAc alpha 1}X}R; GlcNAc beta 1}3GalNAc alpha 1}6GalNAc alpha 1}X}R; Fuc alpha 1}4GalNAc alpha 1}X}R; GalfNAc alpha 1}6GalNAc alpha 1}X}R; Fuc beta 1}4GalNAc alpha 1}X}R; Fuc alpha 1}6GalNAc alpha 1}X}R, and derivatives thereof, wherein X is an optional linker and R is an immunogenicity enhancer such as a polypeptide, a lipid, a polysaccharide or soluble polymer. The present invention further provides antibodies having binding specificity to such antigens and pharmaceutical compositions containing the antigens or antibodies of the invention. |
