SIGNAL TRANSMITTING APPARATUS USING LIGHT

PURPOSE: An apparatus for transmitting a signal is to transmit the signal between semiconductor chips or printed circuit boards through a space using a surface light laser array and a photo-receiver array, thereby transmitting the signal at high speed. CONSTITUTION: The first and second semiconductor chip(20,25) is mounted on a substrate(10) to be opposite to each other. The first surface light laser array(30) is disposed at a face of the first semiconductor chip opposite to the second semiconductor chip to output modulated light having a desired wavelength. The first photo-receiver(40) array is disposed at a face of the second semiconductor chip opposite to the first semiconductor chip corresponding to the first surface laser array to receive an optical signal incident from a part of the first surface light laser array. A signal of the first semiconductor chip is transmitted through a space to the second semiconductor chip. The first surface light laser array is comprised of a plurality of surface light lasers disposed at a side of the first semiconductor chip. The surface light laser irradiates light through a window(32) formed at an upper face thereof.
