PURPOSE: An axial flow valve system for linear compressor is provided to achieve an improved compression efficiency by allowing the discharge valve to be smoothly opened during suction and compression strokes of the piston, thus increasing the suction rate of the refrigerant gas. CONSTITUTION: An axial flow valve system comprises a valve head(110) mounted at a cylinder in such a manner that the valve head slides within the discharge cover, and which has a refrigerant outlet opening(111) formed at the center of the valve head; a valve seat(120) mounted to the refrigerant outlet opening of the valve head; a retainer(130) fixed to the outlet side of the valve head so as to prevent escape of the valve seat, and which has a plurality of refrigerant passageways(131); and a valve spring(140) having both ends caught between the retainer and the valve head so as to elastically support the valve seat.
