PURPOSE: A method for extracting a color invariable of an object from a color image is provided to extract the inherent color of an object by using new reflection model, thereby using an inherent chromaticity distribution of an object, a chromaticity distribution characteristic of a highlight and a characteristic interpreting method on a chromaticity diagram of a chromaticity distribution of an interreflection from a color image. CONSTITUTION: A color image is converted into a chromaticity diagram(10). The color image converted into a chromaticity diagram is separated into an identified color area and an area the chromaticity thereof is converted(20). A chromaticity according to each area is extracted by an interreflection, an interpreting of a highlight and a conversion into the inherent color of an object for separating areas according to objects(30). A reflection rate is restored by estimating an extraction of an optical source color, a spectral power distribution and a reflection rate for obtaining an optical source as a spectral power distribution(SPD) and a reflection rate information according to objects(40).
