Connecting components in optoelectronic rig, connections bonded together in tape form

A method of interconnecting components in an optoelectronic rig involves subdividing the optical components into two groups 20, 30. Each component is placed in a group different from the optical components to which it is to be connected. The terminating sections of the optical components in each group are aligned with the terminations of the components in the other group to which they are to be connected. The aligned terminations are prepared and then tape fusion bonded to interconnect the optical components. Alternatively, a separate optical fibre can be used to connect the components, the separate fibre being tape fusion bonded to the component terminations.
