PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid occurrence of skip up-shifting and generation of heat in retrodding an acceleration pedal after release of a foot for up-shifting and changeover of D to M range. SOLUTION: Switching from a D range to an M range is carried out at an instant t2 during shift of shifting time from a first to fourth speed stage, from the instant t1 of a shift command of the first and forth speed stag accompanied with release of a foot. And an acceleration pedal is retrodden at an instant t3. A command gear position GPNEXT is left at the fourth speed stage at changeover instant t2 from the D to M range, since the gear position for the manual shift range is used. At the retrodding instant t3, instead thereof, the command gear position GPNEXT adopts the gear position for automatic shift range obtained from a downshifting line for the D range. The value GPNEXT is varied sequentially from the third to second, second to first speed at every time it crosses over the down-shifting line. This variation of the command gear position GPNEXT is not reflected on actual shift due to shift response delay. The automatic transmission is kept at the first speed, as indicated by temporal variation of the present selected gear position GPOWT. Skip shifting is not generated. |
