PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic disk which is capable of simplifying the read-out control of user data and also is capable of improving the format efficiency of the user data. SOLUTION: In a magnetic disk having servo data areas 101 which are to be developed radially from the center of a disk while being recorded with servo marks and user data areas 100 which are to be developed by being held among these areas, a constitution in which servo addresses 102a, 102b which are to be used for detecting servo marks are recorded in one part or all of the servo areas 101 which are to be developed in either an inner guard band or an outer guard band which do not constitute the user areas 100 or in both of them is adopted.
