PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate type heat exchanger which achieves a reduction in cost of manufacturing and assembling by minimizing the number of parts and moreover, a higher heat exchange function. SOLUTION: In a plate type heat exchanger which has a heat exchange element 2 comprising two plates through which flows a fluid to perform a heat exchange between the fluid flowing through the heat exchange element and a fluid flowing outside it, the two plates 1 have a plurality of recessed parts and the recessed parts are fastened in contact with each other to close the periphery parts thereof so that a space is formed to let the fluid flow therethrough. In this manner, the heat exchange element 2 is built having opening parts 5 and 6 at both end parts. The heat exchange elements are piled one upon the other so that the opening parts 5 and 6 thereof mutually communicate 7. The recessed parts of the plates are made circular or oval long vertically and the contact parts of the recessed parts are at least 0.3 mm or more in diameter for the circular form and flat in the width for the oval form.
