PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a decrease in an efficiency in association with a frequency change of a compressor in addition to a reduction in a dissipation power and an improvement in reliability by providing an altering means for altering a stroke of a vibration type compressor through a control means based on a sensed temperature, pressure or time of a cooling system. SOLUTION: A vibration type compressor 10 can operate a variable displacement operation by a stroke altering means 1. A control means 12 controls a stroke of the compressor 10 through the means 11 based on a signal from a temperature sensor 5 for sensing a temperature in a refrigerator. The sensor 5 senses the temperature in the refrigerator and transmits a signal to the means 12. The means 12 receives the transmitted signal, controls a stroke according to a thermal load by the means 11, and controls a drive or a stop of the compressor 10 according to the sensed temperature in the refrigerator. Thus, the compressor can be controlled without altering a reciprocating frequency of the compressor.
