A method of preparing a mould growth-inhibiting product for foodstuffs is claimed comprising: a) placing a layer of azodicarbonamide on a substrate; b) covering the layer of step a) with a gas permeable separator; c) superimposing a layer of a second compound selected from benzoic acid, salts of benzoic acid, paraben, acetic acid, salts of acetic acid, lactic acid, fumaric acid, sorbic acid, salts of sorbic acid, propionic acid, salts of propionic acid or mixtures thereof to form a tri-layered combination and d) heating the tri-layered combination to a sufficient temperature for a sufficient time to form the mould growth-inhibiting product with no off-flavour, off-odour, off-texture or off-colour.
