The master cylinder comprises a working chamber (12) in which a main hollow piston (13) slides. A reaction piston (14) inside the main piston delimits a reaction chamber (15) communicating with the working chamber through a non-return valve (22). The annular shaped reaction chamber communicates selectively with the working chamber through an axial passage (23) or through the non-return valve. The axial passage can be selectively closed by an axial pin (141) carried by the reaction piston.
