A block to space apart conductor bars, e.g. the end windings of a dynamo-electric machine or conductors in a transformer, comprises an initially conformable piece of synthetic resin contained within a sleeve which exerts a radial pressure, tending to make the block cylindrical, but of a diameter greater than the space between the bars. As shown, the sleeve 12 is of diagonally woven fibres of glass and polyethylene terephthalate, which material contracts on heating. The block is placed in position, the sleeve ends pulled, so that the resin 13<SP>1</SP> is compressed against the conductor walls, and then wrapped round the conductor and stuck. Heat is then applied which first further contracts the bore of the sleeve and then cures the resin so that a rigid block results. In one alternative arrangement the sleeve, only slightly longer than the piece of resin, is of homogeneous polyethylene terephthalate, while in another it is of natural or synthetic rubber, is initially round and is flattened by hand when placed in position. |
