PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device capable of displaying a map centering such a point as a feature of a road and adjacently existing facilities as keys. SOLUTION: A road form feature extraction means 1 extracts features of a road form such as doglegs, continuous curves, and steep slopes, etc., from a map data base 3, and outputs them to a feature point table 4. Similarly, a road network feature extraction means 2 extracts feature points of the road network such as intersections etc., across water systems and railroads from the map data base 3, and outputs the points to the feature point table 4. A retrieval means 5 lets an operator retrieve the corresponding feature points while displaying a shape, a road name, etc., of the features. A map display means 6 displays a map centering the feature point finally extracted by the operator.
