PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a network connection transparently in the presence of the disconnection or trouble of a basic physical network connection by providing a subprocess which maintains the logical connection between the client and gateway supported by a 1st and a 2nd connection. SOLUTION: In order to relate an existent logical connection to a new physical connection by using information present in an LCP packet 344, a new meaning for the information (semantic) is defined. Pieces of information in packets 342 and 344 are used at the same time. Namely, the LCP information in the packet 344 is closely combined with the network information in the basic physical network and the packet 342. Another physical network connection, however, is established, so the information in the LCP packet 344 makes it possible to maintain a logical TCP/IP connection. Here, a TCP/IP header 346 makes sense of the TCP/IP connection.
