PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image pickup device and a photographing method by which an image is recorded while changing number of photographed frames in a desired timing in a consecutive shot image. SOLUTION: In the case of a usual consecutive shot as shown in Figure (a), an image is received at a prescribed time interval and shored in flash memory. When the user fully depresses a shutter as shown in Figure (d), received images that are being thinned are stored in the flash memory. When the user depresses a fast shot instruction button, the received images are stored in the flash memory without thinning the images. When the depression of the fast shot instruction button is released, the received images that are being thinned are stored in the flash memory. Thus, many frames required of a fast motion in the operation of the object like a moment of impact on a golf ball are photographed and frames of slow motions such as addressing motions of the golf motions are thinned (deframed) resulting in photographing the object with a small number of frames so that a memory capacity of he consecutive images can be saved.
