PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift control device for an automatic transmission which can speedily start neutral controlling, and make the most of its advantage exhibited. SOLUTION: When a non-running range is switched to a running range (S0), and effection stopping condition is not established by a stopping condition determination means, a frictional engagement element is switched from a released state to an engaged state by a shift control means (S4). When the stopping condition is established, the frictional engagement element is directly shifted from the released state to a specified slip engagement state (S6). The slip engagement state is early started.
