PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image signal recorder where the time required to lock the servo control can be reduced in the case of switching an input signal. SOLUTION: An image signal is recorded on an azimuth track on a magnetic tape by alternately using a magnetic head pair 1 consisting of two messages 1A, 1B whose gap azimuth differs from each other and that are closely placed and a magnetic head pair 2 similarly configured to the case with the magnetic head pair 1. Two azimuth tracks are simultaneously recorded for one scanning period of one magnetic head pair. Progressive of the image signal for one frame is controlled for a (2+1/2) scanning period, and a recording pattern on a magnetic tape 100 consists of alternate repetition of patterns P1 and P2.
