PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the erroneous detection of a CNG signal and to surely recognize that the terminal of an opposite side is a facsimile device by starting a CNG detection means when off-hooking is detected and the type of the terminal of the opposite side is the facsimile device. SOLUTION: A control part 107 controls a whole device and compares a registration telephone number registered in a user registration part 101 with a caller telephone number which a telephone number detection part 102 detects for judging whether the terminal of the opposite side from which a call arrives is a telephone set or a facsimile device. When the caller telephone number is contained in the registration telephone number, an opposite type (telephone set or facsimile equipment) registered in accordance with the telephone number is stored in an incoming call recording part 108. A CNG detection part 105 detects a CNG signal during the call when the opposite type stored in the incoming call recording part 108 is the facsimile device. A FAX reception part 106 interrupts the call and starts facsimile reception.
