Container with an integral handle formed in a first stage of a two stage injection stretch blow moulding process

A container of biaxially orientable thermoplastic material is manufactured from a two stage injection stretch blow moulding process. The process comprises a first stage in which a preform 36 is manufactured and a second stage in which the preform is reheated and biaxially stretched to form the container. The container includes a graspable handle 15 affixed at least a first point 17 of connection and a second point 18 of connection to the container so as to form an enclosed area 19 between the handle and the container and through which at least two fingers of a human hand can pass. The first point of connection comprises an integral connection between the handle and the container and is formed in the first stage of the two stage process. The container further includes a first non-expanding region 30 immediately below the locating ring. The first non-expanding region incorporates at least a portion of the first point of connection. The container may include a second non-expanding region 31 below the first non-expanding region.
