PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of nonconformities such as twisting of the bundle of wires constituting a coil, when inserting the coil into the slot of a stator core. SOLUTION: A stator core 13 is positioned and retained by retaining jigs 17 and 19, and a coil 15 to be inserted into a slot 13b at the inside periphery of the stator core 13 is retained with a blade 27. By shifting a stripper 21 toward the stator core 13, the coil 15 is pushed into the slot 13b, upon being pushed by the stripper 21. On the coil-insertion side of the retaining jig 17, a roller 37 for retention is arranged in a condition in which it is attached to an air cylinder 39 via a bracket 41. At the start of coil insertion, the roller 37 for retention lies in the advance limit position shown by two-dot chain line and regulates the nonstop entry into the slot 13b of the coil 15, and retreats gradually so that it comes to a solid line position, accompanying the insertion work, and causes the coil 15 to enter into in the slot 13b gradually.
