摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite fiber optic overhead ground and its deterioration diagnosing system to make regular interval or continuous monitoring with good sensitivity of the internal situation of an optical fiber unit for grasping the deteriorating situation with time of the optical fiber, preventing poor condition of communications originating from severance of the optical fiber, and enhancing its reliability as composite fiber optic overhead ground. SOLUTION: One or a plurality of pieces of composite material 5 with an electroconductive phase formed from ceramic series long fibers and particles are incorporated in an optical fiber unit so that the degree of load on the optical fiber and its damage can be sensed by the material 5 with good sensitivity. The material 5 includes a matrix, and the ceramic series long fibers are made of silicon carbide, silicon nitride, alumina, glass or carbon, and the electroconductive phase should preferably be formed from carbon, metal of different sort, titanium nitride. A deterioration diagnosing system according to the invention measures continuously and at regular intervals the change in the electric resistance value related to the stress vs. strain characteristic of the composite material using this composite fiber optic overhead ground.
