There is disclosed the provision of a plastic film for covering soil for use in cropping or covering a frame for greenhouse effect, wherein at least part of the film has been stretched beyond its yield point prior to application. In use the reduced thickness and/or deterioration of the film allows the passage of a germinated seedling plant, while providing a "greenhouse effect".
