The retaining device for a boot on a snowboard has a base (4) with an upper (31) and a lower (24) face. A cavity (15) is made in the thickness of the base between the upper and lower faces in order to house a padding (12). The padding projects relative to the upper face when it is housed in the cavity. The device has fastening bosses (32,33) for the padding in the cavity enabling it to be removed.
