PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the recording system where high speed recording processing is made compatible with high quality image forming. SOLUTION: An image transmitter 201 designates a recording mode used for recording image data among a plurality of recording modes set to a recorder and mode control section 213 decides a compression rate for data compression applied to the image data based on the designated recording mode and/or a data transfer rate of a communication line 203. A coding section 212 codes the image data at the decided compensation rate. Then the image transmitter 201 transmits the coded image data via the communication line 203 to the recorder 202 through an image output interface section 214. The recorder 202 uses an image input interface section 221 to receive the coded image data sent from the image transmitter 201 via the communication line 203. A decoding section 22 decodes the received coded image data. The recorder records the image based on the decoded image data according to the designated recording mode.
