PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect correct cable connections by disk series connected to an external connection back plane and the connections and operations of respective disks by equipping the external connection back plane with an access detecting and access response operation storage means for an external disk device group. SOLUTION: The data of all access operation storage parts on a SCSI back plane are initialized to 0 (A1). Then it is confirmed whether or not the data of all the access operation storage parts are initialized correctly to 0 (A2) and when the confirmation result indicates 'access information illegall', 'host device- slave device cable misconnection' is displayed (A3). Further, the connection between a SCSI adapter and a SCSI system is confirmed. A disk subsystem management program detects disk access through the SCSI adapter first (A4). Then it is confirmed whether or not the values by the respective data numbers of a SCSI series are 1 and the cable connection is confirmed (A6).
