The disclosure provides a device as shown for dispensing substances for consumption by an animal, said device including; a holder for said substances for consumption by an animal with at least one outlet and a piston providing a movable surface within the holder configured to maintained a seal with the adjacent interior walls of the holder; a hinged cover movable between a first and second positions, in which said outlet is respectively inaccessible and accessible to said animal, said cover being biased towards the first position; and a dispensing means connecting said cover to said piston, wherein moving said cover from the first position to the second position moves the said piston towards said outlet in predetermined increments to reduce the interior volume of the holder, dispensing a predetermined quantity of said substance.
