A method for machining by electro-erosion with an electrode wire in which the electrode wire is inclined with respect to a machining plane in a manner that it is parallel to the face of the component to be cut, the latter not being orthogonal to the machining plane, is characterized in that diverse successive inclinations are given to the electrode wire by displacing the upper wire guide along axes U and V with chosen values (U1, U2, V1, V2) and each of these inclinations the movement of the electrode wire is controlled towards the component to be machined until contact between the wire and the component is detected. The corresponding levels along the X or Y axes are memorized and, using an appropriate algorithm, the distance which the upper wire guide must be displaced to incline the electrode wire so that it is parallel to the desired cutting face is calculated.
