摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the luminance of a liquid crystal display device using the MVA system by forming projections which regulate the tilt direction of liquid crystal molecules at the time when driving voltage is impressed and making the perpendicular alignment regulating power of alignment layers in regions with the formed projections lower than that in regions with no projections. SOLUTION: Projections 28 comprising a transparent material are zigzag formed on an insulating film 24 and a pixel electrode 26 on a substrate 10. Projections 50 comprising a transparent material are zigzag formed on a common electrode 48 at a half-pitch interval between the projections 28 and 50. The perpendicular alignment regulating power of alignment layers 30, 52 in regions with the formed projections 28, 50 is made lower than that in other regions with no projections. Even liquid crystal molecules on the tops of the projections 28, 50 tilt when voltage is impressed and light transmits even on the projections 28, 50. The opening ratio of pixel parts is therefore increased.
