PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems such as dispersion in illuminance due to changes in brightness with time and power source voltage and to improve the detection accuracy by reproducing colors closer to those of an actual object. SOLUTION: An appearance inspecting device comprises an illuminating means 2 to irradiate a printed circuit board 1 with light and a color CCD camera 3 to pick up the image of the printed circuit board 1 and inspects objects to be inspected of the printed circuit board 1 on the basis of the image information picked up by the color CCD camera 3. In the appearance inspecting device, the illuminating means 2 is constituted of illuminating parts 6 and 7 for detecting markers and an illuminating part 8 for inspecting components. The illuminating parts 6 and 7 for detecting markers each comprises red light emitting diodes D1 and D2 arranged at two locations with the different directions of irradiation with respect to the printed circuit board 1, and the red light emitting diodes D1 and D2 at different locations irradiate the printed circuit board 1 with light. The illuminating part 8 for inspecting components comprises red color emitting diodes D3, green light emitting diodes D4, and blue light emitting diodes D5 and irradiates the printed circuit board 1 with white light obtained by synthesizing the three colors.
