The present invention relates to a process for preparing L-carvone by nitrosochlorination of D-limonene, dehydrochlorination of the resulted nitrosochloride of D-limonene, followed by the hydrolisis where D-limonene is nitrosochlorinated with concentrated chlorine hydride, in saturated solution of sodium nitrite, in water non-miscible alcohol medium, the nitrosochloride of D-limonene prepared in situ is subjected to dehydrochlorination, without its separation from reaction medium, by heating, when optical invertion also takes place, the resultant carvone-oxime is further subjected to hydrolisation in the presence of water and acetone
