PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image processing unit with high quality by which binary image data rich in gradation performance can be generated even when an original image is a natural image so as not to cause regular patterns such as so- called 'chipped edge' and 'long tail'. SOLUTION: A 1st comparison means compares original image data outputted from a multi-gradation image data output means 10 with a random number generated by a random number generating means 31 and generates binary data. The 1st comparison means generates binary data with a probability corresponding to multi-gradation image data 200 of a pixel under question in this case. Then a data correction means 33 corrects the binary data 200 of the pixel under question in order to relax noise due to random numbers. Specifically, weighted data of peripheral pixels are added to the binary data 200 of the pixel under question. As a result, data outputted from the data correction means are again multi-value data, and a 2nd comparison means compares the multi- value data with a setting value of a threshold setting means 35 to provide an output of binary data again.
