PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shortly suppress the time from picking up each recorded image till recording it on a recording medium and to make photographing intervals small by comparing the data quantity of data after compressing an image for one image with a target value and deciding compressibility for image compression in every image so as to make the data quantity almost coincide with the target value. SOLUTION: An image compression circuit 11 performs image compression of image data stored in a storage area 5a with prescribed compressibility and stores the obtained compressed image data for one image in a compressed data storage area 5b. When this storage is finished, a memory control circuit 22 detects the data quantity of the compressed image data for one image which are stored in the area 5b and notifies the data quantity to a stereo component system 12. The system 12 compares the notified data quantity with a target value, increases previously used compressibility in accordance with an exceeding degree when the data quantity exceeds the target value, conversely reduces the previously used compressibility in accordance with a falling degree when the data quantity falls below the target value and decides a formal compressibility.
