PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a magnetic recording medium having a high C/N ratio in a short wavelength region as well as having satisfactory coating film strength. SOLUTION: A hardening agent is not contained in a coating material for the upper layer. The coating material for a lower layer satisfies the condition of 0.1 <=[(the weight of a hardening agent)/(the weight of a binder)]<=0.3. When the thicknesses of the upper and lower layers are represented by d1 and d2, respectively, the relations d1×2<=d2 and 0.05μm<=d1<=0.5μm are satisfied.
