PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the quantity of light uniform when a linear image read area is irradiated with lights emitted by light sources which are arrayed in a line. SOLUTION: The image reader A is equipped with the light sources 6 which are arrayed on a substrate 5 in a line, a case 1 forming a light guiding space part 14 for guiding the lights emitted by the light sources 5 to the linear image read area S, and photodetecting elements 7 which are arrayed in a line so as to photodetect the reflected lights through the image read area S, and partition members 15 which section the space part present on at least the light source side of the light guiding space part 14 into section areas 14a along the length under the same conditions are arranged in the case 1; and the same number of light sources 6 are arranged in the section areas 14a respectively and the partition surfaces 15a of the partition members 15 have high reflection factor characteristics to light.
