PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shadow mask for a color cathode ray tube having an improved structure of beam passthrough holes of a mask so as to suppress moire. SOLUTION: In the color cathode ray tube equipped with a mask 3 provided with innumerable beam passthrough holes 30 on an emitting path of an electron beam, the vertical pitch VP1 between the respective beam passthrough holes 30 is set to be not less 2.7 or 3.4 times the vertical pitch between horizontal electron beam lines irradiated on the screen. Further, in a slot mask having beam passthrough holes shorter than the beam passthrough holes of a grill mask and longer than the beam passthrough holes of a dot mask, and having bridges communicating with non-hole parts between the respectively longitudinally arranged beam passthrough holes, the central part of the bridges are isolated, to form opposite sinistral/dextral bridges on the basis of the central part. Here, the respective sinistral/dextral bridges are positioned in a partial area of phosphors including the black matrices.
