Feline vaccines containing Chlamydia psittaci, preparation by culturing in egg yolk sac

Feline vaccines containing Chlamydia psittaci and method for making these are disclosed. An inactivated, immunogenically effective Chlamydia psittaci vaccine which does not produce local and systemic adverse reactions containing less than 50ìg per dose. This vaccine may further comprise a feline antigen other than Chlamydia psittaci selected from Feline Rhinotracheitis, Feline Calicivirus, Feline Leukemia virus, Toxoplasma gondii, rabies, Feline Panleukopenia virus, Feline Immunodeficiency virus, and Feline Infectious Peritonitis virus. Further claimed is the process for preparing the vaccine by: a) culturing Chlamydia psittaci in egg yolk sac b) harvesting an egg yolk sac membrane from the egg yolk sac and freezing the harvest as a master seed c) culturing the master seed or passages of the master seed on a surface until at least 80% of the cell line is destroyed by the Chlamydia psittaci d) harvesting the destroyed susceptible cell line and media containing the Chlamydia psittaci accompanying the cell line e) removing the destroyed cell line from the Chlamydia psittaci f) Inactivating the Chlamydia psittaci g) Mixing the inactivated Chlamydia psittaci with an adjuvant and physiologically acceptable carrier.
