Process for the synthesis of omeprazole

A process for the manufacture of omeprazole (depicted above) from pyrmethyl alcohol via pyrmethyl chloride and pyrmetazole. The process is characterised in that the whole reaction sequence is carried out without any isolation or purification of intermediates. Further that the reaction is carried out in a main solvent system common for the whole reaction sequence and inert to the reactants formed during the process and used in the process. The process according to the present invention may also include an additional purification step.
