Digital video line scan apparatus synchronised to precision time source

An event recording digital camera 10 includes an imaging element 15 for forming a light image of a visual field and an image sensing element such as a Line Scan CCD and A/D converter 26 for generating a digital image frame from the light image. The camera includes a timer 14 for generating time signals at tunable discrete rates and an element that, in response to communication with a precision time source (not shown), selects the rate to maintain synchronization of the timer with the precision time source. The camera includes a time processing element 32 for marking frames generated by the camera with the time of generation of the frame as determined by the timer. The precision time source may by the timer of a second digital camera so that the camera image timing may be synchronized between the respective cameras.
