<p>A process for producing bisphenol A whose hue is stable at high temperatures and does not change. The process comprises using an acidic ion-exchange resin as a catalyst and an alkyl mercaptan as a promoter to react phenol with acetone under the conditions of a reaction temperature of 60 to 100 °C, a phenol/acetone ratio (by mole) of 6 to 13, and an acetone/mercaptan ratio (by mole) of 13 to 25 to yield bisphenol A, removing the unreacted acetone, the by-product water, and the alkyl mercaptan promoter by distillation, further removing the excess phenol by distillation, and determining the concentration of organosulfur compounds in the resultant crystals to keep the concentration thereof at 200 wt.ppm or lower.</p> |
